Product Manager, Genomics

We have an exciting opportunity for a customer focused Product Manager to manage commercial activities of Bionano’s Saphyr system porfolio comprised of consumables, instrumentation and software for genome optical mapping. The position encompasses the development and implementation of product marketing strategies and tactics and to execute activities required to achieve sales and profit objectives for the portfolio.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

    • Product Line Strategy:
      • Manage the complete life cycle and value chain of the products within the Saphyr portfolio, aligning with key stakeholders across the business to deliver on customer commitments and sales and profit targets
      • Develop the go-to-market and innovation strategy for the portfolio and execute required market intelligence, voice of customer input and market development activities and provide marketing leadership for new product development programs
      • Develop marketing strategies, including market sizing, customer segmentation, competitive analysis, product definition, as well as market share and revenue projections; maintain detailed understanding of the competitive and technology landscape
      • Actively identify new areas for customer and business value, including improved products and services, improved margins, and new applications for technology development and R&D investment
      • Work closely with relevant stakeholders in the business such as Sales and Operations to develop and implement pricing, positioning, messaging and channel strategies for the various global regions and market segments

     

    • Advertising & Communications:
      • Develop, implement and regularly review a comprehensive marketing plan including inbound and outbound marketing tactics to increase market share and awareness for the Saphyr portfolio
      • Work in conjunction with outside agencies and the appropriate internal resources
      • Assure a strong web presence for the portfolio using SEO and SEA best practices
      • Provide leadership, coordination and content for selected trade shows and industry conferences and KOL panels

     

    • Product Sales & Support:
      • Generate technical awareness in the appropriate departments to handle routine customer concerns and inquiries
      • Respond promptly and directly to non-routine technical and business questions
      • Support the Global Sales and Customer Support teams through customer visits and regular communication, including participation in regional and global sales meetings
      • Work closely with sales, scientific affairs and marketing stakeholders to develop and implement sales collateral, training materials and other sales enablement programs to achieve revenue targets
      • With deep technical understanding of the portfolio and associated applications, train field sales organization to sell and support products within assigned market segments

     

    • Sales and Operations Planning and Performance Insights:
      • Assist with the forecasting process to provide a vital link between sales forecasts and production quantities to address demand exceptions, forecast new products and assist with prioritization in the event of supply challenges
      • Monitor performance of assigned product lines to ensure revenue, volume and margin targets are consistently met and escalate concerns and required adjustments
      • Monitor portfolio performance at the customer level to understand trends and identify new challenges and opportunities to inform the business strategy and go to market activities
      • Provide regular reports as requested by business leadership
      • Understand the assigned portfolio at all levels and keep key stakeholder groups (Sales, Marketing, Operations, and Finance) apprised at all times of new developments and opportunities
    • Project Management:
      • Manage projects as assigned to achieve business objectives

Skills and Education

Required

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Masters’ degree or equivalent in Genetics, Molecular Biology, or other related science field
  • Minimum 3 years in Genomics; experience in product management, development or marketing in NGS, Cytogenetics or Molecular Diagnostics will be a plus
  • Relevant technical and market/ customer knowledge of target applications of cytogenetics, cancer and/or human genetics research a plus
  • Demonstrated success at building customer relationships and understanding customer needs
  • Must have experience building financial, market and pricing models; background in data analytics will be a strong plus
  • Must have excellent listening, self-motivation, time management, organizational, presentation and interpersonal skills
  • Open-minded, creative, out-of-the box thinker. Being able to think big, start small, learn fast and upscale quickly
  • Ability to work independently set and drive personal and business objectives
  • Demonstrated success managing complex projects in a relevant business context
  • Formal project management training highly desired
  • Global Travel – up to 35% of the time
  • San Diego Office based
