Staff Accountant

Bionano Genomics is seeking a positive, self-motivated and energetic accountant who will be responsible for full cycle financial accounting.  This includes accounts payable, international accounting, fixed assets, accruals, cash management, billing, payroll and collections by mastering our general ledger, closing entries, and account reconciliations.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Enter invoices into accounts payable system; match invoices with related packing slips
  • Create, maintain, and organize vendor and customer information; act as primary contact to vendors and customers
  • Prepare weekly accounts payable, including supporting documentation and aging report
  • Prepare weekly accounts receivables report, including supporting documentation and aging
  • Print checks and load ACH payments into banking system
  • Daily cash accounting entries into Intacct
  • Accounts receivable support and invoicing
  • Collections and managing remittances via wire/ACH, and credit card
  • Review employee travel reimbursement requests for supporting documentation via Concur
  • Maintain fixed assets in accounting system and calculate depreciation entries
  • Book intercompany transactions and maintain intercompany reconciliations
  • Enter monthly, quarterly, and annual journal entries, as needed, into general ledger and prepare certain balance sheet account reconciliations
  • Organize supporting documentation for quarterly reviews and year-end financial statement audit
  • Support the continuous effort in building-out our accounting system
  • Participate in the development and execution of SOX Compliance efforts
  • Support more complex accounting projects and initiatives with other members of the accounting and finance team or with other departments
  • Support Controller and other members of the accounting team during monthly close cycle
  • Interact with financial management, general management, internal/external auditors and other personnel
  • Act as primary Company contact for vendors
  • Assist with multi-state taxing authority compliance
  • Perform other tasks as requested, including ad-hoc analysis
  • Administer other platforms that relate to your accounting areas of responsibility

Skills and Education

Required

  • 2-5 years relevant accounting experience
  • University degree in accounting or finance
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Advanced working knowledge of MS Office Suite
  • Experience with ERP’s and accounting systems
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail

Advantageous

  • Experience in biotech or life sciences industry preferred
  • Knowledge of Concur, or similar expense tracking software, Fixed Assets, and/or automated accounts payable system is helpful
  • Applies knowledge of business, accounting, and financial principles
  • Understanding of internal controls and proper supporting documentation
  • Track record of taking initiative to resolve issues
  • Ability to manage concurrent multiple projects or activities and adapt to change
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
